Happy Easter!

Do you remember the clay eggs that we made last week? Look at them now! Once they had dried out we painted them and added glitter then put some pretty ribbon through them. Now we can hang them up as a beautiful Easter decoration. They look great alongside our lovely printed cards that we made.
We would like to wish everybody a very happy Easter, have a wonderful holiday and we will see you in April!

Finger Print Fun!

It has been lots of fun exploring different printing techniques in the nursery this week. We used string to create the grass effect and our thumbs for the sheep's head. Then we used our fingers to create the ears and some pretty flowers. Can you guess what we used to print the legs on our sheep?
We would love to hear about any different printing techniques that you have explored and to see some of the great results that you achieved!

Creative with Clay!

It has been lots of fun being creative with the clay this week! First of all we had to roll our ball to make it nice and flat, then we cut it into an egg shape. Next we explored a range of tools to create different patterns - and now we are leaving them to dry so that we can paint them. How do you think we will know when the clay is dry? What changes will have taken place? We will let you know next week what happened!

Keeping Safe!

We were very lucky on Monday because we had a special visitor! Caroline came to talk to us about how to keep nice and safe when we are out and about near the road. We looked at a big book with some great pictures in that showed us what we should do, and Caroline taught us the actions to help us remember 'STOP', 'LOOK' and 'LISTEN'!
Do you like the nice bright colours on our high visibility jackets? And can you see where the stripes were shining brightly - these would help to keep us safe in the dark.
Caroline also read us a story about a teddy that didn't have his seatbelt on in the back of the car - we must always make sure that we wear our seatbelt and keep it done up throughout the journey.
We would like to say a big thank you to Caroline for coming in to talk to us, and for all the lovely things she left for us to help remind us to stay safe - and of course, we will make sure that we hold hands with a grown up whenever we are out and about outside.

Easter Egg Hunt

We had a great time on the field today. We helped Rodney Rabbit with his counting by finding all the numbered  eggs  and putting them in the correct order from 0-20. Rodney was very happy and told us that his  friend the Easter bunny had hidden some real chocolate Easter eggs for us to find. We had to hunt high and low, some of them were a bit tricky to find. There could still be some eggs out there!

A little reminder for the week . . .

  • Please remember to collect your sponsor money for the readathon and bring it into school before the end of term. Every form returned will be entered into a draw for book vouchers - good luck!
  • The last date to place orders for the Scholastic Book Club is this Friday. Unfortunately the school will be unable to process any that are returned after then.
  • This Friday, the GSA are having a Mufti Day in support of the Easter Tombola which has been scheduled for next Wednesday, 27th March. Children can come into school on Friday in their own clothes for the donation of an Easter egg!

Star of the Week!

Our Star of the Week for last week was Alex - congratulations and well done!

Comic Relief Costumes!

To help raise money for Comic Relief, we came to nursery dressed up in different costumes! Some children (and staff!) came as their favourite Super Hero and some came dressed in red. We thought everyone looked great and what's even better, is that the money raised will help improve the lives of others less fortunate. Well done and thank you to everyone that contributed, we are very proud of you.

3,2,1 Blast Off!

Last week we really enjoyed the story of 'Whatever Next!', and so this week we have made our own super space rocket to go in. We have been having lots of fun thinking about the different places we would like to visit!
If you were able to go for a ride in our rocket, where would you like to go? We would love to hear about the adventures you could have, and we're looking forward to lots more of our own next week!

  • This week we continue our effort for the 'Big Pedal' - please remember to tick your child's name on the chart each time they come to nursery on either their bike or scooter. Thank you.
  • For those children here on Friday of this week, we will be celebrating Comic Relief Day - the children are welcome to come dressed as their favourite 'Super Hero' for a £1.00 donation.
  • Friday is also the last day for the sponsored 'Super Readathon'. Any money raised is due into school by Thursday 28th March. Thank you.

Happy Mother's Day!

We have been making our mums a lovely card with a drawing of a daffodil on the front and some super writing inside! Before we made them, we talked about what makes our mums so special - here just a few thoughts that the children had:

Freya L - "I like cuddles and kisses, and me and daddy are going to make her breakfast in bed on Mother's day!"

Phoebe - "Mummy lets me play outside and mummy lets me water the flowers in the garden - yellow and pink too, that's the colour flower. She cuts up boxes and plays rockets too."

Codey - "Because she brings me new puzzles. She makes cakes and I put the icing on and I decorate hexagon shapes out of paper. Buy them from the cake shop. We're going to get some new ones soon. Sometimes they can be sparkly pink things - you can eat them."

Lily - "She cuddles me!"

We hope all our mums have a very special day on Sunday, and that you enjoy your cards and presents!

Time for a Story . . .

As part of our celebrations for World Book Day, we have been thinking about our favourite story. This is what Katie and Alex told us about their favourite book . . .

Katie - "Mr Wolf's Pancakes! All the neighbours didn't help Mr Wolf make pancakes, and he made them himself. When they sniffed them they knocked at the door and they wanted pancakes. Mr Wolf ate them all up, then he ate all the pancakes and got fat at the end!"

Alex - "Little Red Riding Hood - Little Red Riding Hood's mummy made some cookies and Red Riding Hood went into the woods. Mum told her not to talk to strangers but she talked to the wolf. She was going to Grandma's house. Grandma was hiding in the wardrobe. When Red Riding Hood got there the wolf was in the bed dressed as Grandma, 'What big teeth you got'. The wolf said 'All the better to eat you with!' The Hunter heard Red Riding Hood scream, he came and shooted the wolf and plopped him in the river and put him in jail. Grandma and Red Riding Hood had cookies and that was the end!"

We like spending time looking at books in our book corner, some of us brought in old books from home that we didn't want any more so that we could 'swap' them with a friend and take a new story home to read!
We would love to hear about your favourite story book - perhaps you could tell us about it and then we could read it too!

Monday 4 March 2013

A little reminder for the week . . .

  • We are taking part in the 'Big Pedal' initiative over the next three weeks. It would be great if as many children (and parents!) as possible could come to nursery on their bike or scooter each day. Please remember to 'tick' the sheet in the courtyard to record each time you or your child manage to do this. Thank you for your support!
  • It is World Book Day on Thursday, and the children have been invited to take part in a 'Book Swap' as part of our celebrations. We will also be doing this tomorrow (Tuesday) for any children not here on Thursday. Thank you, and 'happy reading'!

Star of the Week!

Our Star of the Week last week was Lily - congratulations and well done!

Happy St David's Day!

Today is very special if you are Welsh, and we have been finding out about some of the traditional events that take place to celebrate St David's Day.

Lots of children were excited to see the Dragon as it reminded them of the one that we had made to celebrate Chinese New Year!

We also liked the look of the Welsh Cakes and wondered what they would taste like - we thought we might try some at the weekend.

Some of us have been growing daffodils in our nursery courtyard so we were very interested to see what they will look like when they flower - hopefully they will be as beautiful as the ones we bought in the shop!

Will you be wearing a daffodil or a leek today? We would love to hear about how you or your family celebrate if you are Welsh - enjoy your special day!
