A Special Visitor!

We had a very special visitor during our end of term assembly - Father Christmas!
He brought us a lovely big present for the Nursery . . .

We were all very excited to see what it was when we opened it . . .

Now we can't wait until we come back in January so that we can start using it!

We hope you had lots of lovely presents too - post us a comment and let us know which was your favourite!

Time for a Party!

The last week of term was a very busy one - and included two parties!

We had one on the Monday afternoon for our 'start of the week' and 'afternoon' children, then a second one on the Thursday morning for our 'end of the week' and our 'morning' children!

There was lots of delicious food to eat . . .

And of course, everyone took home a party bag afterwards!

Unfortunately we had some children that were away poorly - we hope that you are all feeling better now, and enjoyed getting your party bag!

Do you have any favourite party games that you like to play?
Post us a comment and let us know.

Stick Man

Stick Man lives in the family tree
With his Stick Lady Love
and their stick children three . . .

This is the last of our focus author books for this term - and as anticipated, the children loved it!

Click on our 'Share A Story, Share A Smile!' book to see our book blog and read what the children thought of this great story.

We'd love it if you left us a comment or two!

A Gift for Baby Jesus . . .

Several of the children have excitedly been talking about what they are going to have for Christmas.

As part of our Nativity, we have been finding out about the gifts that the Kings and the Shepherds took to celebrate the birth of Jesus.

We asked the children to think about what they would have liked to have taken as a special gift if they had been able to go to the Stable and visit the new baby themselves.

Here are some of their ideas . . .

Ella - "A Lullaby"

Oliver L - "A coat - in case it rains"

Harley - "A star - because it's for his birthday"

Kendra - "A rainbow"

Erin P - "A little teddy"

Jessie - "A toy, a baby choo-choo train"

What special gift would you have taken?
Post us a comment and let us know!

The Gruffalo's Child

We had so much fun sharing our most recent Julia Donaldson book 'The Gruffalo's Child' that we are going to read it again next week - but this time, we are going to have the Sound Book version!
Click on our 'Share A Story, Share A smile' to hear what the children thought of the original story.

Tree Decorations!

The children were very excited when they arrived at Nursery on Tuesday morning and found our Christmas tree up with lots of decorations and the fairy lights on!

We thought it would be nice if they all made a decoration of their own that they could take home to hang on the family Christmas tree each year - and bring back happy memories of their time in Nursery!

Have you put your tree up yet? Do you have a favourite decoration? We would love to hear about it - post us a comment and let us know!

'Star of the Week'.
Congratulations and well done!

Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer!

The children have been having so much fun taking turns to wear our special reindeer costume!
We thought it would be nice to incorporate Rudolph onto the front of our Christmas cards that the children have been making this week . . .
Can you see how we created the reindeer shape?

What design are you going to use for your cards this year?

Let us know!

Counting Stars!

The rehearsals are now under way for our Nativity, and we have been finding out about a very special star that shone above the Stable!

When we look up at night, we can see lots of stars in the sky - and this week, we have been counting stars and finding the
corresponding numeral . . .
How many stars can you see?

We have also had fun singing
'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star'!

An Autumn Trail . . .

The Gruffalo wanted to go for an Autumn walk on the school field, but he was worried that he might not find his way back to the Nursery.

One of the squirrels had suggested that he made himself a repeating leaf trail to follow, but he wasn't sure what to do.

We explored some of the leaves
together to help him . . .
The children then used an activity on the computer to copy, continue and create some repeating leaf patterns of their own!
Perhaps you could create some repeating leaf patterns too!

Night Monkey Day Monkey

Having found out about how Diwali is celebrated both during the day time and night time, we thought that this next Julia Donaldson book would be a great one to share . . .
Take a look at our 'SHARE A STORY, SHARE A SMILE!' to find out more!

Happy Diwali!

Diwali is a very important and exciting festival in the Hindu faith.
It is also called the Festival of Lights.

Diwali takes place during the last month of the Hindu year and celebrates the beginning of the New Year in the Hindu calendar.

The word 'Diwali' means 'row of lighted lamps' - we lit our own divas while we sat and shared a story about Rama and Sita.

We thought these traditional Indian clothes were beautiful.

Do you like our paper plate divas?

It was lots of fun creating our mehndi patterns using the computer!

What do you think we used to create these mehndi patterns?

We worked together to create a colourful Rangoli pattern at the entrance to our Nursery to welcome everyone!

Have you been celebrating Diwali? We would love to hear what you did.

Getting On and Falling Out!

We have been thinking about what makes a special friend . . .

Sienna - "Be nice to each other"

Oliver L - "You play with them. If you don't share, your friends won't play with you"

Finley - "You should be nice and gentle"

But sometimes, friends can have a falling out . . .
We thought about what we could do to help:

Iris - "Give them cuddles"

Zoe - "We could give them a story"

Aisha - "You could be kind and help people to be best friends again"

Let us know what you think makes a good friend!

Our 'Stars' for last week were Iris, Sam and Wanda. Congratulations and well
done to all of you!

Fantastic Fireworks!

This week we have been thinking a lot about bonfires and fireworks!
As well as a number rhyme about five fireworks, we watched some on a video clip then had fun pretending to be different fireworks out on the school field. We also shared our own experiences of bonfires and fireworks:

Mia - "I love fireworks! Mummy takes me to the fireworks"

Jessie - "Fireworks go bang . . .  and like pretty stars"

Joe - "I saw a green one, a blue one and a red one in the sky at night time. They went bang!"

Isabella - "I saw fireworks with mummy and daddy, there were many colours. It's really loud. It's high in the sky. They're banging"

We watched a video of Fireman Sam - he gave us lots of very important safety tips for Bonfire Night, then we had a very special treat - we went outside to watch some sparklers from a very safe distance!

If you are going to a bonfire / firework party this weekend we hope you have a lovely time - but please remember that children under five should not be given sparklers to hold - and always follow the firework safety code.

Post us some comments to share your experiences with us.

Have fun - but keep safe!

Room on the Broom

Many of the children were eager to share their experiences of Halloween when we came back after half-term - and this seemed to be the ideal choice for our next Julia Donaldson book!

Take a look on our 'SHARE A STORY, SHARE A SMILE!' to find out more!

Building Bonfires

We have had another busy Wellie Wednesday. We talked about Guy Fawkes and why we celebrate on the 5th of November. We then had a go at building our own bonfire. We collected big and small sticks and lots of soggy leaves before pretending to light our fire. We added some coloured tissue paper to resemble the flames before warming our hands by the fire!

Let's build a bonfire

These logs will burn well

Warming our hands

What do you think of our Bonfire?

Star of the Week!

Congratulations to Aisha, Harley, Leyla and Isabella who were all awarded 'Star of the Week' Well done!

The Gruffalo

Having enjoyed our Autumnal experience beneath the trees, we decided that this next story by Julia Donaldson would be
a good one to share!
Take a look at our 'SHARE A STORY, SHARE A SMILE!' to find out more!

Autumn Time!

We have had great fun exploring out on the school field as the leaves have been falling from the trees!

Just like the squirrels, we hunted for 'Autumn Treasures' and took turns to describe what we had found . . .

Conker Shell - "It feels soft inside" (Isabelle)
"It real prickly! It got orange on it and black on it" (Leyla)

Pine Cone - "Spiky, hard" (Harley)
"It's prickly, hard" (Boyan)

Conker - "Brown, hard circle" (Kendra)
"Cold, bumpy" (Alesha)

We twisted, twirled and turned as we created our own leaf dance!

Later, we explored paint mixing to create Autumn shades and then printed with some of the leaves we had found.

What signs of Autumn have you noticed?
We would love to hear from you.
Post us a comment and let us know!

The Scarecrows' Wedding

As we have been thinking about the scarecrows that helped to protect the produce growing out in the fields, this story by Julia Donaldson seemed a great choice for our next focus author book!

Star of the Week!

Our 'Stars' for last week were Leyla, Isabella, Ebony and Finley.
Congratulations and well done to all of you!

Harvest Time!

This week we have been thinking about all the wonderful fruit
and vegetables that we enjoy . . .
How many apples can you count on the farmer's apple tree?

We 'harvested' some fruit and vegetables for our new number line!

It was lots of fun putting our hand in the 'feely' bag and describing the 'mystery' fruit and vegetables hidden inside!

We used some of them to print with!

And the best part of all was when we
tasted them!
Here are just a few of the fruit and vegetables that the children decided they would like to say 'thank you' for at Harvest time . . .

"Carrots - because they're yummy!" (Lucy)

"The bunches of grapes - they smell lovely" (Lexie)

"Apple - 'cause it's my favourite!" (Willow)

"The blackberries 'cause they're juicy" (Grace)

Let us know what your favourite fruit or vegetable is, and why - we would love to hear from you.

Post us a comment and let us know!
