Happy Mother's Day!

We have been thinking about our mums and what it is that makes them so special.
Here is what a few of the children said . . .

Gracie - "She draws things with me"

Harry R - "She's the best maker ever of pancakes!"

Isla - "She gives me huggles!"

Thomas - "She builds things"

Everyone created a fabulous portrait of their mum - and talked about their
favourite feature . . .

Joshua E - "I love my mummy's pretty hair"

Skylar - "I love my mummy's eyes - 'cause they're really happy!"

Arlo - "I love my mummy's lips - I love her lipstick!"

We thought you might like to see their fantastic portraits . . .

We hope you all enjoyed our special Mother's Day Assemblies earlier in the week, and the cards and flowers from the children.

Happy Mother's Day!

Wibbly Pig's Silly Big Bear

We have been thinking about why our mums are so special to us, and decided to read this story from Mick Inkpen:
We enjoyed finding out about all the things that make Wibbly Pig's bear so special to him.

Celebrating St Patrick's Day!

St Patrick's Day is celebrated annually on 17th March. The day honours the patron saint of Ireland, but celebrations are held around the world.

Miss Kane wore her traditional costume and talked to us about some of the traditions and celebrations that would be taking place in Ireland - she even showed us how to do some Irish dancing!

We would love to hear about any traditions that you and your family / friends have for
St Patrick's Day.

Let us know!

Wibbly Pig has 10 Balloons

We enjoyed finding out about Holi - the Hindu Spring Festival of Colour - and thought this next book by Mick Inkpen would be a good one to share as it had lots of colourful balloons!

Happy Holi!

We have been finding out about the Hindu Spring Festival of Holi. It celebrates the arrival of spring flowers and when the main crops are almost ready for the spring harvest.
The festival lasts anything from three to five days and is known as the Festival of Colour.

Do you like our colourful paintings that we created using the Splash activity on the computer?

We designed some repeating colour pattern necklaces . . .
And explored colour mixing for our spring flowers . . .

It was lots of fun splatter painting the large flower heads for the center of our display!

You can find out more about Holi by watching the video clips . . .

Happy Holi everyone!

Star of the Week!

Signs of Spring

We talked about the four seasons today and then went on a hunt for signs of Spring. It was lovely and  sunny and the birds were singing. We spotted lots of daffodils. bluebell shoots, celandines and trees with buds about to burst open.

Have you seen any other signs of Spring?

New Darwin Day Focus

Our new Darwin Day focus for this half-term is Growthability / Good to be Me!

Growthability from huntytelford

We reflected on what each of the characters in the story of 'Mr Wolf's Pancakes' had been good at, and what would have made Mr Wolf feel happy or sad.

Everyone took a look inside a 'mystery box' to see somebody very special looking back at them!

We talked about how special everyone is in their own way and that we can all be proud of ourselves, our friends and our family.

Here are a few of the children's responses:

I feel happy and proud to be me when . . . .

Ben G - "I can draw a big picture"

Arlana - "Playing, playing with teddies and I am nice to people"

Flynn - "I play with my sister Poppy and we share and take turns on her skateboard"

Albie - "I write my name"

I am proud of . . .

Ben G - "Albie - because he looks out for me!"

Arlana - "Harvey, because he is kind to people"

Flynn - "My sister, cause she plays with me"

Albie - "My sister Olive because she can walk"

What have you done to make yourself feel proud?

Who else are you proud of and why?

Let us know!
