Kung Hei Fat Choi!

We have been finding out about
Chinese New Year . . .
As 2017 is the Year of the Rooster we all did a handprint to add to our collaborative rooster's tail for our display!

Throughout the week we have also been counting the coins in our lucky red envelopes, writing good luck messages in Chinese and creating our own interpretations of the Chinese Willow Pattern.

We came to Nursery dressed in red or gold.
It was great fun trying to eat our beansprouts and noodles with chopsticks!

Amelia brought in some Chinese books
to share with us.
We had a go at counting to five in Chinese!

Do you like our dancing dragon? We went around school wishing everyone a
Happy New Year!

You can find out more about Chinese New Year by watching the following video clips:

How will you be celebrating Chinese New Year?
We would love you to get in touch and
let us know!

Puppet Creations!

Inspired by Sock Thing from Kipper's Toybox, we have been designing and making our own sock and wooden spoon puppets!

Can you see some of the different resources we have used?

We are busy making a puppet theatre now so that we can perform some puppet shows!

Kipper's Toy Box

We have been talking about 'toys' - we thought we would find out what Kipper had in his Toybox!

Click here to find out a bit more
about this great story - and what some
of the children said about it.

Toys!

We have been bringing in our special toys to
share with each other.

First we told everyone about our toy, and then we looked very carefully at it for our observational paintings . . .

"Iron Man - you press that button and he talks. You can hold and turn his head. His lights go on when you press the button. You use the legs to help him walk"

"He tips and the roof opens - watch this, look - a bin truck. It's very, very fast. Just push it along the floor - let go of it and it goes very, very fast"

"It's orange - it's all orange - and look, it's got wings too! It's got wheels and it can go
super fast!"

Have you got a favourite toy?
We would love to hear about it!

Star of the Week!

Last week, Ted and Arthur were both awarded 'Star of the Week' - congratulations and well done to both of you.

Our New Darwin Day Focus

This half-term we have a new
Darwin Day focus . . .

Bouncebackability!

We have been talking about the new
Darwin Principle for this half-term . . .

We found out that starfish can create a new leg if they lose one. It takes time, but we can adapt and evolve from setbacks.
If we think positively we can grow.
Starfish have bouncebackability!
We took turns to pass the starfish around the group and told each other something that we can do well:

Albie - "I can share books"

Jasmine - "I really love to play"

Next we played the 'Keeping very quiet' game! We tried to pass the tambourine around the circle without making any noise - then tried to do it even more quickly and even more quietly!
By all trying hard and helping each other, we were able to achieve our goal!
The children thought about something that they would like to try and achieve and set their own 'learning goal' . . .

Harvey - "Kick a ball - in the goal"

Mila - "I want to be able to paint a house - I can't do it yet"

We are all going to try hard and help each other. If things go wrong, just like the starfish, we will 'bounce back' and keep going so that we can achieve our goal!

What would you choose to have
as your special goal?

Let us know!

Kipper!

This term we are going to have Mick Inkpen as our focus author.
We thought we would read 'Kipper'
for our first book . . .
Click here to find out what some of the children thought about the story.

Happy New Year!

We would like to welcome everybody back to Nursery and to wish you all a very
Happy New Year!

The children have been thinking about their 'New Year Promise' and have each made a hand-print robin to display them on!

Here are just a few of the different promises they have made:

Ben G - "I'm going to share the toys in Nursery"

Arlana - "I'll clean up my room for mummy and daddy"

Jacob - "To pick up them bricks (pointing to the Duplo) and put them in the drawer"

We are all going to help each other to keep our promises!

Have you made a New Year Resolution? We would love to hear what it is!

Wrap Up Warm For Winter!

We have been talking about 'Winter' - the children shared their thoughts . .  .

Ben F - "It's cold, put hats on, a coat on, I can put my gloves on"

Lola - "I saw some frost - on the grass"

We all wrapped up nice and warm before going outside to see what other signs we could find . .  .

"They've turned white"

Eve - "The grass is crunchy!"
George - "It's so hard"

Amelia - "It's so beautiful winter time - because it's so white"

"Jack Frost!" - Flynn

"Frost! Frost makes cold fingers - ahhh, my hands are freezing!"

Have you noticed any other signs of Winter?
Let us know!

Star of the Week!

Logan and Skylar have been the first two children to be awarded the Nursery
'Star of the Week' in 2017!

Congratulations and well done to both of you.

Tweet Treats

Today we listened carefully to the birds and talked about how some migrate to warmer climates during the winter months. Other birds stay, managing to keep warm by eating more food and fluffing up their feathers. These birds can get very hungry because worms are very difficult to get out of the ground when it is hard and frozen so they have to manage by finding berries or seeds. We decided to help them by making some special bread cone treats for the birds to feed on. We spread lard over the fir cones and then rolled them in bread crumbs before hanging them in the trees. Next week we’re going to see if the birds have had their tweet treat feast and whether they fly back for more!

Have you seen any birds in your garden?
Do you know their names?
