Gradually Growing!

We have been looking at the changes that have taken place with our sunflowers, and predicting what we think might happen next!

Here is a selection of what some of the children said:

Amelia W - "It was small. It's bigger with leaves. It will have a sunflower. It will be yellow."

Eloise A - "It was really small. A little seed. It's really big with leaves. It will turn into a sunflower with yellow petals."

Lily - "There was nothing there, it was a little seed. It looks bigger. it will turn into a sunflower. It will be black in the middle - the seeds, and the petals will be yellow."

Elliot - "Tiny - I put the seed in. It's a little bit grown, it's a little bit big. Spikey leaves! It will grow, it will be all big. More leaves, the sunflower will have petals - yellow."

Joel - "A little seed, then a shoot came out, got taller. Big flappy leaves, and a droopy leaf. Really tall now. A stem - hard and wet - been in the rain! Will turn into a sunflower - seeds and a flower and the petals will die - I'll be sad."

How are your sunflowers doing? We would love to hear about the changes that you have noticed taking place and to know how tall they are now - perhaps you could send us some pictures?

A little reminder for the week . . .

  • Thank you for the unusual containers that have been brought in so far. It would be great if we could have some more to add to the collection! We have been given a date for the judging to take place during the first week of July, so all entries need to be brought in as soon as possible. Thank you in anticipation!

Happy Father's Day!

This week the children have been talking about why their daddy is so special. Here are just a few of the things they said:

Amelia C - "I love him. My daddy makes pancakes with sugar on"

George - "My daddy plays football with me and Josh my brother"

Freya L - "My daddy took me to the cinema to watch 'Finding Nemo' and we had sweeties. And he gives me kisses and cuddles and he reads me a book at night time"

Finley - "Dad gives me a big hug and a kiss"

For a special treat, we have made some delicious jungle animal biscuits for them to eat - we had to follow the recipe carefully!

We made wonderful jungle cards as well - we hope you all have a lovely day on Sunday!

Elmer the Elephant!

Inspired by our lovely elephant hand print cards that we made for Wesak, we have been reading some of the Elmer books by David McKee.
Do you like our collaborative Elmer that we created? We each decorated a patchwork square using a range of different patterns and colours.
Elmer's friends decorated themselves for the Elmer Day Parade - we made plastic milk bottle top elephants to join them . . .

Some of us used paint, some used collage and some used a combination!
If you were an elephant joining the parade, how would you decorate yourself? We would love to hear your ideas - or you could send us a photo of your elephant if you make one!

A little reminder for the week . . .

  • Please can any Scholastic Book Club orders be returned to school by this Friday, 14th June. Thank you.
  • We are hoping that this lovely warm weather will continue - please ensure that your child has a sun hat (clearly named) each day, and that you apply sun screen before they come to nursery. Many thanks.
  • Thank you to those that have already brought in their 'unusual container' - Judging is likely to take place during the first week of July, so if you haven't done so already, get your thinking caps on!

Wellie Elephant Prints

As part of our work on Elmer this week we learnt about elephants. There are two types of Elephants, Asian and African. Asian elephants and have larger ears, they flap their ears to keep themselves cool. Elephants like to swim, and enjoy muddy baths which help to cool them down too.

Today we imagined that we were elephants in the hot sun so decided to make a muddy swamp to play in! The soil was very dry so we had to add plenty of water to make our mud.

We did have fun making muddy footprints and exploring the sounds and patterns you can make in the mud.

                       Whose are these muddy wellies?

  • At last we have some sun! Please ensure that your child has a sun hat with them each day (clearly named!) and that you apply  sun screen before Nursery each day. Thank you.
  • The children will be bringing home their 'Bags to School' bag this week - once filled, these can be returned to school on the morning of Friday 7th June. Thank you for your support with this scheme.
  • Please ensure that all forms sent home recently are completed and returned to Nursery by the given deadline. Many thanks.
