Guess the Fruit and Veg!

As we have been thinking about harvesting all the fruit and vegetables this week, we played a 'feely bag' game to help us describe the different produce.

Can you work out which of the following descriptions were for the banana, apple, broccoli and pear?

Ember - "It's hard, it's got a stick on it. It's got prickles at the bottom"

Ava - "Cold and soft. It's squidgy. It feels turny - it goes up and down"

Noah - "It feels all slimy and it feels sticky. It feels branchy and at the top it feels like it's going up and down. It feels tickly"

Bethan - "It's got a curly bit at the end and it's soft and you have to open it because it's got a wrapper on it"

How would you have described them?

When we had finished playing our game, we tasted the produce and then we used what we had left to do some printing!

Look out next week in the nursery for more of the children's descriptions and photographs of our harvest related activities!

Harvesting the Wheat!

Just like the Little Red Hen, we have been very busy again this week!
Each group worked together to create a wonderful salt-dough wheatsheaf and then we all made a delicious bread roll to take home and eat with our tea!
Maisy said "It's all going soggy and squidgy" when the water was added to the flour and yeast!
What shape would you have rolled your dough into?

Something magical happened when we left the rolls under the tea-towel in a warm place before we put them in the oven - they grew bigger! What changes do you think happened to them once they went in the oven?

Have you got a favourite recipe that you use for making bread? We would love you to send it to us if you have.

A little reminder for the week . . .

  • As you will have seen in this week's addition of 'The Bell', we will be donating our Harvest collection to The Ark in Shrewsbury. Especially useful for them would be tea, coffee, sugar and tinned meat. Donations can be dropped off in the school hall on Friday morning (27th), or if your child does not attend on a Friday, you can drop them in at the Nursery any day this week. Thank you!
  • Please also ensure that you read the notice in 'The Bell' regarding Treehouse (our After School Club) - feel free to talk to a member of the team if you need any clarification with regard to booking places.
  • Bike It, Be Bright Day is on Monday 7th October - it would be great if the Nursery children could get involved in this alongside the older children in school. We would love the children to come to nursery dressed as brightly as possible, and if the children cycle or scoot to school, it would be great to decorate their transport too! For more information, visit www.sustrans.org.uk/bike  - be bright, be seen!

Star of the Week!

Our Stars of the Week for last week were Oliver P S, Ember and Noah. Congratulations and well done to all of you!

The Little Red Hen!

As well as thinking about where our apples come from, we have also been thinking about what happens to the wheat we may have seen growing in the fields. We have read lots of different versions of 'The Little Red Hen' and had lots of fun acting out the story with stick puppets and character hats!

Have you got a favourite version of the story? Which characters were in the story you read? If you wrote a new version, which characters might you include?

We would love to hear your ideas - let us know!

Counting Apples!

This week we have been thinking about where our apples come from! We had fun 'collecting' apples from the orchard using an activity on 'Come Outside' (http://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/) and then we played a great number game with the dice. Some of us counted the dots, and some of us identified the numerals to see how many apples to 'remove' from the tree!

Do you like the display we have made in the nursery too? Can you count how many apples there are on each tree? How many are there altogether?

A little reminder for the week . . .

  • Wellie Wednesday sessions start for the nursery children this week - remember to name all clothing!
  • Friday is 'photograph' day! Please check the letter you had about this regarding the arrangements if you would like your child to be included, but do not usually attend on a Friday. Thank you.
  • We will be welcoming contributions for Harvest next week - thank you in anticipation!

Star of the Week!

Last week, Ava and Archie were the first two children to receive 'Star of the Week' for this term - congratulations and well done to both of you!

Guess Who?

This week we have been looking closely at ourselves and comparing similarities and differences. As well as finding the tallest and shortest child, we have also been doing some wonderful self-portraits using a variety of media!

The children had lots of fun playing the 'wet, soap, rinse, dry' game and singing the 'going to the loo' song on the bobinogs website (www.bbc.co.uk/bobinogs) after we had talked about the importance of keeping our hands nice and clean. We also read the story 'Wash your hands!' by Tony Ross.

We have been teaching the children some action rhymes using different parts of their body, but we would love to hear some new ones too - so let us know your favourites!

A little reminder for the week . . .

  • Please ensure that you read the important information in 'The Bell' this week regarding admission into school for next year!
  • If any of you have changed your details from the end of last term when the admission forms were completed, please ensure that we are provided with the new information - i.e. new mobile phone / work contact numbers etc. Thank you.
  • Wellie Wednesday sessions will start for the Nursery children next week - please ensure that your child has all the appropriate clothing and that everything is clearly labelled with their name!
  • As always, don't hesitate to ask a member of the team if you are not sure about anything and we will do our best to help.

Welcome to our Nursery!

We would like to say a really big 'WELL DONE' to all of our new boys and girls that have joined us this week.

It has been lovely getting to know you all and seeing so many happy, smiling faces!

We have had some glorious weather to help us enjoy exploring the school grounds alongside all the exciting activities that we have on offer inside the Nursery.

Our photographs provide a little 'taster' of what we have been up to this week:

Having fun in the water tray

Dressing up and taking photographs

Making phone calls in Bramble Cottage

Painting in the creative area

Building in the sand tray

Exploring the tyres

We are glad that you all had lots of fun - it would be lovely to hear what you have told your family about your first day with us - we hope we have helped to create some special memories and that you are all looking forward to joining us again next week!
