Christmas is Coming!

The children have all been very excited this week!
They have enjoyed a Christmas party and have taken home their lovely card and calendar that they have made.

The children that were with us on Friday also enjoyed a visit from Father Christmas!
He brought some lovely new toys for the Nursery.

We would like to thank you for the lovely gifts and cards that you have so kindly brought for us too - they are much appreciated.

All of us in Nursery would like to wish you a wonderful Christmas and a very happy New Year.

Take care, and we will see you in 2015!

What a Performance!

We have been so proud of all the children this week as they have performed alongside their friends in the two Reception classes for our Foundation Stage Nativity - 'What a Star!'

There were dancing Silver Stars
And Gold Stars too!

With a Choir of Angels . . .

They told the Shepherds what to do!

There was some wonderful singing, dancing and story telling throughout the whole performance.
We hope everyone that came to see it enjoyed the production as much as we did - we are so proud of you all.
Well done!

Building Houses . . .

The children have been very busy in the Nursery this week - building their dream home!

Here are just a few . . .

"And then you need a roof . . . a triangle. It needs a door, here's a door, a square!"

"I've built a house with trees. It's got windows and a door. It's got a roof"

"It's a car park house. These two bits at the side come up at night so it can't get out. I used two squares to hold up the triangles and squares for the floor"

As well as showing some great imagination in their designs, the children also thought carefully about the shapes that they were using!

What would your dream house look like?
We would love to hear from you - let us know!

Houses and Homes!

We have been busy thinking about our lovely homes recently and the children have had a go at describing them to each other.
There have also been some super drawings!

"It's got a green front door with a number 4 on it. It's made of bricks. It's got a chimney on the roof" (Ava S)

"My house is made of bricks. I've got a bedroom and I've got hundreds of toys. I got a white door and there's a window so you can see" (Evie)

"My house is square. It's got 1,2,3 windows and a brown door and it's got a number 4 and a 3 on it. It's got a roof and two chimneys" (Billy)

We think these were super descriptions - how would you describe your house?

The Jolly Postman

The Jolly Postman had too many letters to deliver today so we helped him by delivering letters to the woodland animals in our forest friends area. We had to look carefully at the numbers on the addresses to make sure we posted them to the correct animals. We were also busy using the mud kitchen to make pies and casseroles for the animals too eat!
A letter for Felicity Fox at No. 6.

Muddy leaves.

Transporting water.

Muddy soup!

A big stake!

We did enjoy our Wellie Wednesday session.

Night Monkey Day Monkey . . .

Night Monkey and Day Monkey's worlds are as different as . . .  night and day!

We have been thinking about night time a lot recently through our activities linked to Bonfire Night - so we thought this sounded a great book to read! Click on 'Share a Story' to find out what some of the children thought of this lovely book.

Children in Need!

This week we have been raising lots of money
for Children in Need . . .

The children (and staff!) came to Nursery dressed in their pyjamas or onesies for a
donation of £1.00.
Everyone was very warm and cosy - but we were having too much fun to fall asleep!

After we had washed our hands and put our aprons on, we set about baking some delicious teddy bear biscuits - which the children could then purchase for a further donation of 50p.

We measured out the ingredients before adding them to the bowl.

A steady hand was needed when we added the milk!

Careful with the rolling pin . . .

Time to cut out a teddy shape!

We could smell the biscuits as they were baking, it made us feel very hungry - then at last, we had the finished product!

Thank you so much for all your generous donations, we were able to raise a total of £59.50 which will be added to the school total
(to be announced next week)

Let us know what you have been doing to raise money for Children in Need - we would love to hear from you!

Fantastic Fireworks!

This week the children have been very excited about their Bonfire Night celebrations!

We have had lots of fun activities including a number rhyme about fireworks, creating a bonfire and firework display, watching a video all about bonfire night safety and dancing like fireworks as well as watching a sparkler - from a very safe distance of course!

Tillie told us "I like building a bonfire - with sticks and leaves"

Meadow said "I like it when the fireworks come out - because we go upstairs and watch them. You have to stay away from fire"

And Cody added "I watch bonfires when the fireworks are not starting. Bits of wood and bits of flame come out of it. We had to go away because it might spread out in our eyes. Only grown ups can light bonfires so they don't burn their eyes"

We have certainly had lots of fun this week in nursery - if you are celebrating Bonfire Night this weekend we hope you have lots of fun too, but please remember to STAY SAFE.

We would love to hear all about your celebrations - let us know what you got up to!

Room on the Broom . . .

We have been reading another great story by Julia Donaldson -

"The witch had a cat and a very tall hat,
And long ginger hair which she wore in a plait.
How the cat purred and how the witch grinned,
As they sat on their broomstick and flew through the wind."

Follow the link to our 'Share a story, share a smile' and find out what the children thought!

Star of the Week!

We had three Stars in the week leading up to half-term, congratulations and well done to Harry, Louis and Corey!

Happy Diwali!

Diwali is a very important and exciting festival in the Hindu and Sikh faiths. It is also called the Festival of Lights.

Diwali takes place during the last month of the Hindu year. It celebrates the beginning of the New Year in the Hindu calendar.
Before half-term, we watched a video clip about a little girl and her family and how they prepared for, and then celebrated, this lovely festival. Here are just a few of the comments that the nursery children made afterwards . . .

"They lighted up special candles on the windows" (Seren)

"I liked the candles" (Ava M)

"I liked when people decorate the door, I liked the people blowing the candles out" (Poppy)

"I liked the house, they decorate it, I like the fireworks" (Jamie)

We had a go at painting our own mendhi patterns on a hand template and created some collaborative rangoli patterns too!

Do you know anyone that was celebrating Diwali? We would love to hear what they did - let us know!

Autumn Crowns

We have been learning about the changes that
take place during Autumn. We looked at all the different sorts of leaves that had fallen from the trees. We then used the leaves to make Autunm crowns, we thought of different ways to create repeating patterns; by colour shape and size. We then played at being Kings and Queens of the forest!

What do you think of our Autumn crowns?
