Congratulations!

We would like to say a huge 'WELL DONE' to everyone for their fantastic effort in our two Sports Day events this week.

We were so proud of each and every one of the children and we'd like to say 'thank you' to all the friends and family that came to support them and cheer everyone on.

We hope you enjoyed watching - we would love to hear which were your favourite races - let us know!

Message in a Bottle!

This week we have been having great fun imagining that we are Pirates that have been ship-wrecked . . .

We have been writing 'help' messages and rolling them up to go inside our plastic bottles before 'throwing' them into the ocean waves in the hope of being rescued!

What would you write for your message?

We would love to hear your ideas - or perhaps you might find one of our messages washed up on the sand - let us know!

The Rainbow Fish . . .

The Rainbow Fish, with his shimmering scales, is the most beautiful fish in the ocean. But he is proud and vain and none of the other fish want to be his friend - until he learns to give away some of his most prized possessions.

This was a lovely story to follow on from our focus on Wesak and the importance of being kind. We thought about how we could be kind to each other in Nursery and each idea was written on a scale to create our own special 'Kindness Fish'!

Here are just a few of the suggestions made by the children:

Billy - "Share a book when I'm reading a book"

Meadow - "Let everyone join in my games"

Louis P - "Let people go first"

Harry - "Give my friends some trains
to play with"

What could you do to show an act of kindness?

We'd love to hear from you - let us know!

Celebrating Wesak!

This week we have been finding out about the Buddhist festival of Wesak . . .

Wesak is the most important festival for Buddhists - it generally falls on the first full moon in May and celebrates the Buddha's birthday. For many Buddhists the day also marks the Buddha's enlightenment and death. This year, it was celebrated on June 1st.

Having watched a video that included a walking meditation - walking slowly around the circle of water - we thought we would have a go ourselves - it was very peaceful!

The 'Bathing the Buddha' ceremony is also often included. Water is poured over the shoulders of the Buddha as a reminder to purify our own minds from greed, hatred and ignorance.
Gifts are taken to an alter to be offered to the Buddha statues . This shows respect and gratitude to the Buddha for his life and teachings.

Buddhist teachings remind us that working together and being kind to each other is really important. We sat down together under one of our trees and imagined that it was a Bodhi tree - we shared our fruit and sang a song for Wesak and listened to a rhyme about the Golden Buddha.

The mandala is a sacred space, often a circle, which reveals some inner truth about you or the world around you. Buddhists use mandalas for meditation and in their art - we created our own collaborative mandala using flower petals!

The Wheels on the Bus!

As 'The Wheels on the Bus' is one of our favourite action rhymes, we thought this would be another great book to read by Jan Ormerod and Lindsey Gardiner . . .
