Happy Easter!

We have been having fun learning a new number rhyme - 'Five Easter Eggs in a Chocolate Shop' !
When there were no eggs left to buy, we went for a hunt to help the Easter Bunny find some more . . .
We helped each other to sequence the numerals correctly, then counted along our newly created number line!
The Easter Bunny loved the chocolate Easter Nests that we made for a special treat, and we hope that everyone liked their Jackson Pollock inspired Easter Card.

We would like to wish everyone a very
'Happy Easter'!

Inspired by Jackson Pollock!

We were very proud of the children's Kandinsky interpretations and decided to look at some of the work of another famous artist - Jackson Pollock.
An influential American painter and a major figure in the abstract impressionist movement, he was well known for his unique style of drip painting.
We focussed on 'Reflection of the Big Dipper' and 'Convergence' and all contributed to our own collaborative pieces!
This inspired us to use the same technique for the front of our Easter cards . . .
It was lots of fun!

Looking for Signs of Spring!

We have been for a walk in our school grounds, looking for signs of Spring . . .

There were some flowers - "They're different colours, pink, white, purple"

"The daffodils are growing"

"Buds - they'll turn into leaves"

"They're purple flowers. They've got little leaves on them. And they've got orange in them too"

We found a family of ladybirds!

"I saw two ladybirds, little tiny in the leaves. He got black spots, red on the back. He just fly away" (Leyla)

"I liked the ladybird cause they go on the grass" (Lucy)

When we got back, we wrote some poems . . .

Have you noticed any signs of Spring?

In the Style of Kandinsky!

During a self-initiated session, we spotted this wonderful painting being done, and it reminded us of Kandinsky's 'Squares with Concentric Circles'!
We showed it to the children and decided to do our own interpretation . . .
Some children chose to paint
Others decided to cut out their shapes, and some decided to use pastels.

These were then combined to create our own collaborative works of art!

what you think!

A New Friend for Elmer!

As you know, the school has been raising money to support Agape Simon Petro through the pupil sponsorship appeal. Agape lives in Tanzania and we are helping to provide her with a place at the East Meru Community School (EMCS).

The children in Nursery have all been 'artists' and have created a new friend for Elmer the Elephant! These are on display in our 'gallery' and parents have been given the opportunity to 'reserve' their child's masterpiece for purchase, with all proceeds going towards sponsorship for Agape.

We thought you might like to see the children's wonderful art too - post us a comment and let us know what you think!

Star of the Week!

Last week Leyla, Megan and Colette were all awarded 'Star of the Week'.
Congratulations and well done to all of you!

Big Yellow Friday!

We have been helping to support the Children's Liver Disease Foundation's national fundraising day - Big Yellow Friday!

The children (and staff!) came to Nursery dressed in something yellow and we went on a 'yellow' colour hunt.
There was also the opportunity to guess how many sprinkles were on the yellow cake!

We are delighted to say that through the kind donations from parents, we have been able to raise £41.00 to help with the vital funds that the CLDF need to transform the lives of children affected by childhood liver disease and their families through support, information and research programmes.

Thank you so much to everyone that donated, your support is much appreciated.

World Book Day!

To help celebrate World Book Day, the children came to Nursery dressed as their favourite book character!

Some of them also created a 'Story Spud' at home and brought them in to show us.

Have you got a favourite book or character?

Who or what would you have dressed up as?

Let us know - happy reading!
