Planting!

We have decided to have a go at growing our own 'Jungle' and have been thinking about what we will need for our seeds to grow well.

Everyone has chosen either a bean, a tomato or a sunflower seed to plant in their pot. We made a hole, put the seed in and then covered it up with compost.
We wrote our name on a label so that we knew which was our pot and we all agreed that we would have to remember to water them to help them to grow!
Now we need to be patient and show 'STICKABILITY' as we continue to care for our plants and wait for our 'jungle' to appear!

Have you planted any seeds recently? What are you hoping to grow? Let us know!

Think Like a Tortoise!

They may seem slow and heavy, but tortoises have lived for hundreds of years. They always get where they need to go. If we think positively we can get where we want to go too.
If we don't give up and stick at it we can achieve our dreams!
We have been talking to the children about their hopes and dreams for the future, here are just a few of their ideas . . .

Colette - "I would like to go to an office and go to meetings. Do lots of work and be a boss!"

Sam - "Write books"

Harley - "Be a Fireman"

Wanda - "I want to be a teacher - in this school!"

What are your hopes for the future? If you try hard and show 'stickability' you will be able to achieve your dreams too!

Exotic Zoo!

We were very excited when we had a visit from 'Exotic Zoo' - Sam brought us some lovely new friends to meet and she told us lots of information about them.
This is what we found out . . .

Pascal is a chameleon lizard. He likes to live in trees and can hold onto branches with his tail! Pascal is usually green when he is happy, but will turn black all over if he gets scared. He likes to eat flies, caterpillars, butterflies, and beetles - which he catches with his tongue. Pascal is 4 years old and is now fully grown. His eyes can look in opposite directions!
Max is a millipede and Sam had to wake him up as he is usually asleep during the day! Max has lots and lots of legs which tickled - at 4 years old he is still growing, but he will have about 250 legs when he is fully grown. His skin is a little bit like a snail's shell - carrying his house on his back. Max has feelers called antennae to help him feel where he is going and he likes to eat leaves.

Michelle is a baby tortoise. She is five years old and lives with her mum, dad and baby brother. Her shell is four times heavier than she is! Michelle likes to eat salad, fruit and leaves. She has claws to help her dig in the soil.

Charlotte is a tarantula - she likes hiding underneath the ground and comes out at night time. Charlotte catches food on her webs. She is five years old and really hairy! Charlotte peels her skin off when she grows, she has dark hair so that she can be well hidden and she is very quiet. She likes to eat flies - and
boy spiders!
Sid is a corn snake, he leaves his skin behind when he grows out of it. He's 1 year old and likes to catch other animals to eat - especially mice. He sticks his tongue out to sniff where he is going, then opens his mouth really wide to catch his dinner - which he swallows in one gulp! He has big strong muscles under his skin and needs to have a drink of water every day.

Fidget is a red-eyed tree frog and he looks like a leaf with red berries. Fidget tries to look poisonous so that other animals wont eat him! He can climb trees and has bright orange feet. Fidget has to stay slimy and he catches flies with his tongue.

We loved meeting all these new friends - what else can you find out about them?
Let us know!

Stickability!

Our new Darwin principle for this half-term is 'Stickability' - we hope the following will provide you with a useful insight into what it is all about!

Happy St George's Day!

We have been finding out about Saint George and the Dragon - it was lots of fun dressing up and acting out the story.

We used the puppets too.

We had lots of fun exploring the castle!

And finished with a lovely story about George and the Dragon - where George was a mouse!

Will you be doing anything special to celebrate
St George's Day?
We would love to hear from you!

Doing the Animal Bop

We loved all of the Mick Inkpen stories that we shared last term, but now we are going to focus on a selection of books by Jan Ormerod and Lindsey Gardiner.
Take a look at our 'Share A Story' to find out more!

There's A Rumble In The Jungle!

This term we are focussing on what it would be like to be in the jungle!
We looked at a selection of Rousseau paintings and asked the children to imagine that they were walking through one of them - what might they see and hear? How would they feel? Is there anything they would like to find out about the jungle?
This is what some of them said . . .

Leo - "There's gorillas there, crocodiles, hippos - I would look scared, because there's crocodiles there!"

Kendra - "Maybe snakes and lions in the trees, a giraffe and a rainbow"

Joe - "Might be tigers - I know a tiger song, I saw it on Nanny's telly. What do lions and tigers and leopards eat?"

Isabel C - "I think there would be flowers and animals like giraffes and growling from the bears and it would be sunny. What flowers grow?"

Everyone loved the story of 'Rumble in the Jungle' - we had lots of fun moving like the different animals and using the percussion instruments to represent them!

Aisha's favourite animal would be a snake - she thought it would need some "food and a drink" - "Otherwise he will be hungry and thirsty!"
Ella said her favourite would be the giraffe - she thought he would need some "grass and giraffe food" and told us "When I went to the Safari Park I feed the giraffes some giraffe food"

What do you think it would be like to go for a walk through the jungle? Let us know!
