Star of the Week!

This week Missy, Leo and Grace have been awarded 'Star of the Week'. 

Congratulations and well done to all of you! 

Roaring Rockets!

Inspired by the wonderful story of 'Whatever Next!' by Jill Murphy, we have been thinking about what it would be like to go on our own rocket adventure!

Aisha said she would take "A picnic - carrots make you big and strong!"

She thought she might see some Aliens!




Isabelle would take her 
teddy - "To cuddle with!"

She thought she might see another rocket!




Wanda decided to take her dolly and hoped to see some elephants!

We have also been exploring another paint programme on the computer to design our own rockets . . .

Star of the Week!

This week Erin P

has been awarded our 'Star of the Week' - congratulations and well done!

Wonderful Wheels!

When we read 'The Wheels on the Bus' by Jan Ormerod, we thought the bus looked great being painted like a zebra!

Inspired by this, we talked about what it would be like if we could create our own wonderful colourful wheels . . . 

We introduced the technique of batik and each child drew their own design between the 'spokes'.

This was then traced over with gold gutta and left to dry.

We needed a very steady hand as we added our choice of colours using silk paints!

Do you like the finished results?

Some of us also explored a paint programme on the computer and created our own 'spinning' wheels!

We think they look wonderful - we hope you do too!

Open Evening!

Last week the school held an 'open evening' to celebrate all the wonderful things that the children have been doing.

For those of you that were unable to attend, here are a few Nursery photographs . . . 

Do you remember our 'jungle plants' that we were growing?        Look at them now!

                              Everyone had fun exploring our jungle instruments!

The Wheels on the Bus!

As we had chosen a 'Bus' to be one of our 'Transport Tribes', we thought this would be a great book to share from our focus author!

Everyone knows that the wheels on the bus go round and round, but in this book the bus drives into a wildlife park and we get to meet all sorts of animals!

'Transport' inspired by Native American Art!

Over the past couple of weeks we have been busy linking our focus on 'transport' with Native American art!

We talked to the children about the use of a canoe as a mode of transport before looking at and discussing a range of different Native American ones.

 Everyone then designed their own individual card one, choosing from a selection of methods to join the edges - staples, glue, masking tape, or a hole punch and wool for lacing.

This was followed by making collaborative group clay canoes, using a range of tools to create a decorative pattern . . . 

We then all helped to paint patterns on a large cardboard canoe and paddles . . . .

After a day out in the canoe, we needed somewhere to rest.

We looked at a range of tepees before creating our own.
Of course, we incorporated canoes into our design!




We also included the Native American symbol for the sun . . .

Having talked about other modes of transport, and hearing a lot in the media about the EU Referendum, we decided to hold our own vote to find the most popular one . . . 

Everyone put a 'x' next to their favourite and placed their vote in our ballot box.

This was then emptied and the results counted and recorded.

Can you see how many children voted for the 'train' during our first ballot at the start of the week? The 'canoe' was the least popular!

We had very different results for our second ballot at the end of the week - can you see which was the most popular this time?

We decided to create our own 'Transport Tribes' and having looked at a selection of Native American totem poles, created one of our own!

It was a bit messy trying to paint our 'pole'!

Can you see our plane at the top? And what about the bus at the bottom?

We looked at a selection of Native American headdresses and then made our own - we 'snipped' the paper to make our feathers and used shaped sponges to print our chosen 

mode of transport!

We have had so much fun!

Which Transport Tribe would you choose?

Racing through the Jungle!

At last we have been able to complete both Sports Day events, after the first one had to be postponed due to heavy rain!

This year, we have gone with a 'jungle' theme. 

First was the 'Getting ready for the jungle' dressing up race . . .

We needed our camera to photograph the animals, a hat to protect us from the sun and a water bottle to keep us hydrated.



Then came the 'Journey through the jungle' obstacle race . . . 


We had to crawl through the tree trunk tunnel, balance along the rope bridge and jump through the hoop swamp!

Next came the 'Jungle animal rescue' race . . .

We collected our rescue vehicle and picked up each of the stranded jungle animals in turn.


All that rescuing made us hungry - it was time for the 'Jungle Cafe' race . . . 


First we had to collect our plate, and then our banana, as we ran we had to remember to keep one hand behind our back! 


   Finally, it was time for the 'Jungle dash' to 
      return through the jungle to reach our 
             jungle shelter for the night!

We all enjoyed our Sports Day - we hope
