Star of the Week!

Arlo, Jasper and Jacob have all been awarded 'Star of the Week' - congratulations and well done to you all.

We look forward to having more 'Stars' after half-term!

Rabbit's Nap

As we have been talking about rabbits a lot recently, we thought this next book from Julia Donaldson would be a good one to share with the children . . .
It was lots of fun lifting the flaps to find out who was keeping rabbit awake!

Shape Scarecrows!

Having had lots of fun hunting for shapes in our school grounds, we thought the children might like to design some 'shape scarecrows' for Mr McGreely to have in his vegetable garden!

Can you name the shape that has been used for the hat?

Which shape has got two long sides and two short sides?

Which part of the scarecrow have the hexagons been used for?

You could have a go at designing your own 'shape scarecrow' - which shapes would you use?
Post us a comment and let us know!

Shape Detectives!

During our register sessions, we have been talking about the names of the shapes used for our 'day of the week' cards that we have, and a few of the children named some of the shapes that they used when constructing the vegetable containers for the Muncha Bunnies.

We decided to be special detectives and go on the hunt for different shapes within our school grounds - here are just a few of the ones that we found . . .

Can you name the shape in the middle of the photograph?

Do you recognise this shape?

Can you see any corners?

How many sides has this shape got?

Can you count the corners?

What shape is our clock?

Can you spot another shape on our triangular bunting?

Can you name this shape?

How would you describe the shape of our tyres?

Perhaps you could be a shape detective too!
How many different shapes can you find in and around your home?
Let us know!

Dingle Dangle Scarecrow!

We have been continuing to enjoy the 'Dingle Dangle Scarecrow' action rhyme!
He has a 'flippy floppy hat' but we didn't know what it was made from, or what his other clothes would look like.
Having read the story of 'Muncha! Muncha! Muncha!' last week, we decided that Mr McGreely could do with a scarecrow to help him protect his vegetables.
The children have been selecting from a range of collage materials to help design one for him.
Here is just a small selection . . .

Can you spot the rice?
How many colours can you see on his hat?
What has been used for his jacket?
Can you find the feather?
How do you think the different materials would feel on the children's fingers as they glued them on to their scarecrow?
Which materials would you use for your design?
Let us know!

What's Growing?

We have been sharing lots of action rhymes about healthy fruit and vegetables recently, so we went to explore our vegetable garden in the school grounds.
There was lots to see and talk about . . .
We created our own verses and actions about how to gather in the crops!

Have you got a favourite fruit or vegetable that you enjoy eating?

Let us know!

The Rhyming Rabbit

As we have had so much fun pretending to be rabbits looking for healthy carrots to eat this week, it seemed an obvious choice to read this story next as our focus book from Julia Donaldson . . .

Counting Carrots!

As well as the delicious apples that we had last week, the children also enjoyed eating some lovely crunchy carrots at snack time.

We have been having fun pretending to be a hungry rabbit eating some of the healthy carrots growing in the ground - and learning a little number rhyme at the same time!

When there were no carrots left at the end of our rhyme, we went to find some more!

Our apple tree that we created for our display last week is looking good - but we decided it would look even better with some carrots growing close by!

Do you prefer your carrots raw or cooked?
Have you tried carrot cake as a special treat?

Post us a comment and let us know!

Wellie Wednesday

Today we built shelters in our Forest School area. We worked in teams using sticks, tarpaulin, string and pegs to construct them. We made seats and places to sleep as well as campfires for cooking! We had fun playing in our shelters.

We found lots of ladybirds in our Forest School area today. What mini beasts have you got in your garden?

The Scarecrow's Wedding

The children have been enjoying participating in the 'Dingle, Dangle Scarecrow' action rhyme so we thought we would introduce them to this next Julia Donaldson book . . .

Autumn Apples!

As so many of the children had enjoyed eating apples as part of their snack last week, we decided to focus on them during our adult-led activities this week!

'On the Farmer's Apple Tree' was a great number rhyme to start with!

We went for a walk on our school field to look at our own apple trees that are growing . . .

We found two lovely apples!

It was fun doing some bark rubbings - can you see the pattern of the tree trunk beginning to appear? We have used our bark rubbings to create our own apple tree for our display!

We used some apples to print with too - how many can you see?

Afterwards, we shared some delicious apples to eat!

Have you got any apple trees growing in your garden?
