The Gruffalo's Child

The Gruffalo was a firm favourite with the children so we have been sharing the lovely story of 'The Gruffalo's Child'.
Everyone enjoyed it so much that we are going to share the 'Sound Book' version this week!

Click here to find out what some of the children said about the story.

Star of the Week!

Congratulations to Amelia and Noah for being awarded 'Star of the Week'

Well done both of you!

Leaf Patterns!

The Gruffalo had been for a walk on the school field but was worried that he might not find his way back to Nursery . . .
The squirrels had suggested that he made a leaf trail to get him safely home. We have been helping him with some ideas for
repeating patterns . . .

Sammy copied and continued our pattern -
"We need a pointy one!"

Pip did the same - and then created a
pattern of her own . . .

"Yellow, orange!"

"Spiky!"

Alana used three of the Autumn leaves to create and print her own repeating pattern . . .
"Red will be next!"

Can you create your own repeating pattern?
We would love to hear what you would do!

Supporting Children in Need!

We have been joining in with the school's spotty-themed fun this week!

For a donation of £1.00, children could come to Nursery dressed in spots, wear pyjamas or just bring a bear!

Some children also brought money in for cakes, or gave an extra donation.

We had one day of fundraising at the start of the week, and another at the end to try and ensure that all of our children could take part . . .

Thank you so much for all of your donations - we will now be able to add £39.50 to
the school total.

Well done everyone!

Poppies For Remembrance

Image result for poppies

We have been finding out about the reasons why many people wear a poppy at this time of year.

The following animation shows war as experienced by the animal inhabitants of a WW1 battlefield . . .

After watching and talking about what was seen, we worked together to create some collaborative poppy
sun catchers . .

Congratulations to Serenna, Rose and Jackson who were all awarded our 'Star of the Week'.

Well done!

Night Monkey, Day Monkey

As we have been talking about the night sky recently, we thought this would be a good choice for our next Julia Donaldson book . . .

Firework Finale!

We were pleased to hear that the children all enjoyed a safe and happy Bonfire Night.

Here are just a few of their recollections . . .

Pip - "My cousins came. I weared my earmuffs because they were too loud (the fireworks). I didn't have fireworks at my house - at granny and grandpa's house."

Beau - "They were too loud so I covered my ears."

Theo M R - "I liked the loud ones!"

Serenna - "I saw some pink ones. Poppy was there and Bella was there. I used Poppy's earmuffs so I can't hear them cause they were too noisy!"

We have had lots of fun creating our display!

We had a rhyme about
'Five Little Rockets'
Then we used silver or gold paint to carefully count and print five stars in the night sky!
We would love to hear about your Bonfire Night celebrations.
Post us a comment and let us know!

Sparkler Safety!

This week we have been finding out how to keep safe on Bonfire Night.

You should NEVER give sparklers to children UNDER FIVE.

But for those children that are five and over, ensure that they wear gloves and when finished, put the sparkler in a bucket of water.

If having your own bonfire or visiting one with family and friends, remind everyone to stand well back and children should be supervised at all times.

We hope that you all enjoy a SAFE and happy Bonfire Night!

Selfhelpability!

Our new Darwin Value for this half-term is 'Selfhelpability'.
We hope the following will provide you with a useful insight into what it is all about!

Selfhelpability from huntytelford

We are all going to try and show selfhelpability in everything we do!

Room on the Broom!

Some of the children have been telling us about their Halloween costumes so we thought this would be a good choice for our next Julia Donaldson book . . .
