Happy Father's Day!

Inspired by our Severn Valley Railway visit, the children have made some wonderful 'train' themed cards for Father's Day, below is the one that Wanda has made . . .

They also painted a portrait of their dad on a tile for him to use as a coaster.

Cherry has included some spotty trousers
for her dad!
The children thought about why their dad was so special . . .

"Because he gets money so me and Ella can go on holiday and have some fun" (Zoe)

"Because he goes to work everywhere in his black van and when he's not at work we go for a walk and sometimes we go to the park when Max is asleep" (Isabel C)

"My dad plays football with me and he plays Lego with me sometimes" (Finley)

We hope you all have a wonderful Father's Day - post us a comment and let us know how you celebrated your special day!

We Went On A Train Ride . . .

We have had two wonderful days out on the Severn Valley Railway this week - and we didn't let the heavy rain dampen our spirits!

It was very exciting when we arrived at the station and saw our steam engine waiting to take us on our journey.

We couldn't wait to get on board and find our seats!

We met lots of lovely new friends that helped us on our way - they all had a special job to do.

We listened out ready to hear the whistle blow!

"Tickets please!"

We saw lots of different animals as we travelled along including sheep, cows, horses, ducks and chickens.
But the best part of the journey was when we went past the Safari Park and spotted the elephants!

After lunch there was just enough time to fit in a little snooze before our return journey . . .
We all had a great time and would love to hear about your adventures if you have been on a train journey - post us a comment and tell us all about it!

Darwin Focus!

We have a new focus for this half-term . . .

Darwin Day - Selfhelpability!

When Darwin had his theories no-one believed him. He listened to the voice inside himself that told him he was right and encouraged him to change peoples and his own thinking.
Our Darwin voice can do the same for us!

We talked to the children about how they are now very good at knowing how to take turns and the way in which they are kind and helpful, and how important it is for them to always try their best - but reminded them that they haven't always been able to do these things!

They took turns to pass the 'Happy Face' around the circle and tell each other something positive about the way in which they have changed since starting Nursery that they are proud of . . .

  Oliver BH - "I couldn't do pictures,
but now I can!"

Leyla - "I remember letters!"

Megan - "I can tidy up now and not
when I was little!"

After congratulating the children on their achievements, and playing 'have a hug' to celebrate, we introduced them to our two new friends - Clarine and Leroy . . .

They are going to be starting school soon, just like the children are going to be joining their new Reception classes.

The puppets are excited, but they have also been feeling a little bit unsure about the change.

The children took turns to pass the 'Worried Face' around the circle and were invited to share any concerns that they may have about this future change themselves . . .
Willow - "I'm a bit worried cause there might be big boys and girls"

Georgia - "I will miss you"

We talked about how we could use 'selfhelpability' to help ourselves feel better . . .

Aisha - "I like all my friends at Nursery and I don't want to leave them, but I could play with other people and I could make friends with them"

Oliver L - "My other friends can still come to my house to play and to have tea!"

We reminded the children again of the positive changes they have been able to achieve in Nursery and reassured them that with 'selfhelpability' they will be able to cope with all the new challenges ahead and continue to be very happy as they move through to the next stage of their learning journey!

How have you or someone you know, been able to show 'selfhelpability'? - post us a comment and let us know!

Whoosh around the Mulberry Bush

We went 'around' part of our school field during our Race for Life event, so we thought this book would be a good choice to read next from our focus author!
Based on the song, it includes animal noises and actions from a variety of habitats, including the garden, seashore and desert to name but a few!

Race for Life!

This week we held our own Race for Life charity event for Cancer Research UK . . .

There was a lot of excitement at the start line!
After running around part of the school field, the children received their medals!

Thank you so much to those of you that have already donated, but for anyone that would still like to, please visit the Cancer Research on-line fundraising page at https://www.justgiving.com/greenfieldsprimaryschool

Thank you.

Star of the Week!

Last week, Sam, Isabel C and Lexie were all awarded 'Star of the Week'.
Congratulations and well done to all of you!

Our Jungle Plants Have Been Growing!

Back in April, we planted some seeds as we wanted to grow our own 'jungle'!
We haven't quite got there yet, but our plants have started to grow . . .
Here is a selection of what some of the children noticed about their own plant's growth:

"It's big and it has growed a stem and
1,2,3,4 leaves!"
"It will grow even more and get more leaves and be a sunflower" (Oliver BH)

"It's grown - there's only the leaves and the stem and it hasn't grown the sunflower bit yet"
"The sunflower bit will come, the round sunflower bit with petals" (Sienna)

"It's got tall and growed leaves"
"It will grow big and tall like a grown up and it will have a flower opened up lovely
and be bright yellow"
(Grace)

"They've grown up, there's leaves and stem and they're green"
"Mine will get bigger and have red tomatoes"
(Wanda)

"It's grown, there's some leaves come on it, but I can't see my sunflower yet!"
"When I come back here in ten sleeps it will have a sunflower" (Oliver L)

We are going to continue showing 'stickability' and look after our plants to help them to grow even more!

Which do you think will grow the tallest, our sunflowers, tomatoes or beans?
