O' Christmas Tree . . .

There was lots of excitement in the Nursery when the children helped to decorate our lovely Christmas tree!

Jake and Teri-Rose liked the star on the top, and Freya R said that the pretty lights made her happy!

Have you put your tree up at home yet? We would love to hear about the decorations that you have used. Perhaps you might be making some of them yourself?  Happy decorating!

Dancing through the leaves . . .

It has been very windy this week and we have been exploring some of the changes that have taken place on our school field since our initial focus on Autumn time began.

It was great fun dancing through the leaves and watching them twist and twirl as they floated down to the ground.

Elliot said "The leaves are crunching and they tickle and tickle under your feet!" and Codey told us "When I kick the leaves I hear them rustle!"

We also listened to two new Autumn songs which we all enjoyed - we would love to hear about some of your Autumnal experiences too!

Eid Mabrook!

We were delighted this week when George brought in part of a special outfit that he had worn recently to celebrate Eid ul Adha. This is a public holiday in Muslim countries - the date changes every year based on the moon.

It is a Muslims Christmas and a time to see family - children receive money rather than presents and the feasting lasts for three days. It is also a time to share wealth so people eat Lamb and give a third to the poor. Thank you George for sharing your experience with us - we're glad you had a lovely time.

Paws for Pudsey!

There were lots of teddy bears visiting Nursery today and everywhere you looked there were paw prints!

We had great fun learning the 'Jump up and Dance' song and actions with Pudsey Bear, and then we played 'Pin the paw on Pudsey'!

It was a good job we were dressed ready for bed as everyone was very tired after all the excitement!

Thank you to everyone that kindly sent in a donation. We will let you know next week how much money we were able to raise as a school, and we are all looking forward to seeing more of Pudsey on Children in Need tonight!

Happy Diwali!

Diwali is a very important and exciting festival in the Hindu and Sikh faiths. It is also called the Festival of Lights. It takes place during the last month of the Hindu year and celebrates the beginning of the New Year in the Hindu calendar.

Brightly coloured Rangoli patterns are created during Diwali celebrations. The decorations are made on floors outside homes and temples to welcome guests in and to bring good luck. All Rangoli patterns are symmetrical.

Mehndi is made from herbs and is used to draw patterns on the skin. We created our own mehndi patterns to make hand prints on our Diwali cards!

It is traditional to share sweets with family and friends at Diwali. We had lots of fun making our own chocolate coconut sweets to share - and they tasted delicious!

The word 'Diwali' means 'row of lighted lamps' and we lit our own divas while we sat and shared our Diwali sweets together.

We looked very smart when we dressed up in traditional Indian clothes! The Diwali celebrations finish with some of the brightest lights of all - fireworks!

We hope you all had a 'Happy Diwali'!

Muddy Hedgehogs!

Today we learnt that during the cold winter months some animals hibernate. We made muddy hedgehogs using materials from the woodland area. We mixed mud for the body before searching  for seed heads, leaf stalks and small twigs to create hedgehog spines. We found small stones and seeds to use as the eyes or tip of the nose.
"I'll find a good place for my hedgehog  to hibernate?"
"I think I'll curl up into a ball and go to sleep!"

A little reminder for the week . . .

  • On Wednesday there will be a special Bike It Be Bright Day - the children are all invited to dress as brightly as possible and decorate their bike or scooter to help be seen and keep safe!
  • Paws . . . for a good cause! It is Children in Need on Friday and we are asking the children to bring in a donation and wear a Pudsey pawprint. Bear ears and teddies are also welcome, so please lets all help to raise as much money as possible for this good cause.
  • Some of the children have brought home a few words to learn for our Nativity, taking place later this term. Please provide lots of encouragement and support for your child in learning their words to help boost their confidence for the final production! Thank you.

Fantastic Fireworks!

This week we have been reflecting back on Bonfire Night - it was great fun splatter painting to create the firework background for our bonfire display! Can you see all the bright colours that we used?

We talked about our own experiences from the celebrations, this is what some of the children said:

Amelia - "On Bonfire Night I saw a big bonfire and fireworks. It was hot and they were loud and bright. There were lots of people and they were shouting."

George - "We saw a big bonfire and fireworks. It was loud. Different colours, pretty ones. They went pitter patter."

Sophia - "I saw a bonfire and sparklers. It was loud and made me jump. They were round and they were beautiful. They went high up in the sky and yellow ones down low."

We made group firework books using the computer . . .

How would you have described the fireworks that you saw and heard?
We would love to hear about your Bonfire Night celebrations.

Keeping Safe on Bonfire Night . . .

This week we have been finding out about Bonfire Night and thinking about how we can have lots of fun but keep nice and safe.

We know that we are not allowed to have sparklers until we are five years old, but we watched a video clip about their safe use and then we wrote our own set of safety rules together that we can share with our older friends and family.

It was very exciting watching and listening to the sparkler that Mrs Florian lit outside - and we all stayed at a nice safe distance and reminded her of the safety rules she had to follow!

We would love to hear about your Bonfire Night celebrations when we come back after half-term. We hope you have lots of fun, and remember - STAY SAFE!

What's Your Favourite?

The children have nearly completed their first half-term in the Nursery and this week they have been thinking about their favourite activities that they like to do. Here are just a few . . .

Riding on the scooter

Dressing up

 Painting

We also asked the children what was their favourite thing about being at our Nursery, here is what some of them said:
Sinead - "Playing with friends"
Abigail - "It's my new school"
Katie - "I like it so much, I like all the toys!"

We would love to hear what you have enjoyed about our Nursery from the things you have seen on our blog!

Autumn Creations . . .

We have been continuing our autumnal activities this week. It was great fun doing our bark rubbings and watching the patterns appear as if by magic!
We explored colour mixing with the paints to create different shades of autumn colours for our leaf prints.
The tree stumps were very useful for displaying our natural sculptures on!
It was fun selecting from our treasures to create our autumn collage!

We are having so much fun exploring! Which autumn treasures have you found when you have been out and about?

Little Wolves, Little Wolves, Where Are You?

Today we talked about the story of Little Red Riding Hood and about  the big bad wolf hiding in the trees in the forest. We had fun pretending to be little wolves hiding behind trees while Little Red Riding Hood tried to find us.

"Where are those wolves?"
Can you find them?

Looking for signs of Autumn . . .

This week, as well as thinking about the changes in the weather, we have been out on the field looking for signs of Autumn. Some of the leaves are starting to change colour and it was great fun watching and listening to the conkers falling off the trees!

When is your favourite time of year?

What will you wear Weather bear?

We have noticed that there have been a lot of changes in the weather recently, and poor old Weather Bear is never sure what to wear! As well as choosing suitable clothes for him from his special bag, the children have also been using the computer to 'dress Ash' so that he can go outside and have some fun.
What do you like to do in different weather conditions?

We're Going on a Treasure Hunt

We went on a nature treasure hunt today. We found things that were straight, round shiny, rough, fluffy, crunchy and beautiful.

Round shiny conkers

A beautiful spotted ladybird

Marvellous mud!

                     What things can you find?
