Happy May Day!

The tradition of celebrating the end of winter began long ago, when villagers would dance around a maypole on the village green and choose a May Queen . . .

It was lots of fun gathering flowers to make our garland!

And it was a great honour to be chosen as Queen of the May to represent Flora, the Goddess of Flowers!

We also brought in flowers from our own gardens and sorted them into groups using the children's criteria - these included size, colour and type of flower.

Which criteria do you think has been used to create this group?

And what about this group?
Can you think of any different criteria that we could have used?

We hope you have all had a lovely 'May Day' and enjoy your Bank Holiday celebrations!
